Oral Radiography

Dental assistants will be trained to prepare patients, safely obtain radiographic dental images, and process and mount films. CDC guidelines for personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control and safety are stressed. Skills will be refined in the dental office where the student is employed. Topics include anatomical landmarks, types of radiographic surveys, radiographic techniques, biologic effects, and types of radiographic and film composition and processing. This course prepares students to take the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Dental Radiation Health and Safety Certification Exam. Applicants must be 18 years of age, currently employed with a dentist willing to supervise clinical experience, have three months' work experience in a dental office, and possess a high school diploma or GED. Textbook required.
