Veterinary Assistant II - Lab: Patient Care, Surgery, Anesthesia and Emergency Care

During this hands-on laboratory course, students will be introduced to animal restraint and handling techniques and equipment commonly used in veterinary practices.  Students will learn the appropriate use and handling of medications including sterile techniques for injectable medications like vaccinations. Students will explore basic veterinary laboratory skills including the use of a light microscope.  Clinically relevant veterinary anatomy will be presented and safe practice around diagnostic radiology in a clinical setting will be discussed. The course consists of 30 hours of hands-on training in the laboratory. All laboratory hours are scheduled in our Veterinary Assistant Lab on the La Plata Campus.  Lab supplies and materials are included in the cost of the class. Must be 18 years of age to register for the Veterinary Assistant Series.  You must enroll in Course I, Lab I, and Practicum I at the same time. Upon successful completion of the Veterinary Assistant Training Program (Theory 1 and 2, Labs 1 and 2, and Practicum 1 and 2), students will be awarded a certificate of completion. Textbook required.
