ClassGraphic  All Wastewater, Industrial Wastewater (Process) Wastewater treatment facility personnel will review the biological nutrient removal processes, including both basic and enhanced(BNR/ENR), for nitrogen and phosphorus removal. BNR/ENR systems with fixed film technologies will be the focus of discussion. Topics include: nitrification and denitrification, Biological Aerated Filter (BAF), upflow and down flow Denitrification Filters, Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge (IFAS), Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR), forms of nitrogen and phosphorus, chemical and biological phosphorus removal, alkalinity adjustment, supplemental carbon sources, process testing, process control, and permit compliance. Key design issues, process configurations, and operational techniques to optimize year-round effluent performances will be discussed for both nitrogen and phosphorus removal.
