Effective corrosion control in potable water requires more than just water chemistry studies. This course will define potable water corrosion, discuss the benefits of determining corrosion indexes, and examine water quality issues like pH, temperature, total dissolved solids, hardness, and alkalinity. Disinfection (type/residual), distribution piping, flushing schedules, treatment process, coupon studies, and electrical grounding all play a major role in total system corrosion. Typical corrosion control practices are reviewed, compared and contrasted.
