This studio art class is designed for high school students who want to strengthen their artistic skills while developing their own creative voice. Through hands-on projects, demonstrations, and group discussions, students will build a strong foundation in both traditional techniques and creative expression.
Throughout the course, students will:
- Develop fundamental drawing skills, including contour drawing, shading, value, proportion, perspective, color theory, and color mixing.
- Gain experience and confidence working with a wide variety of artistic media, including graphite, charcoal, acrylic paint, acrylic paint markers, watercolor, watercolor pencils, oil pastels, oil pastel pencils, latex paint, air-dry clay, and modeling paste.
- Explore personal creativity by creating original works inspired by their own ideas, experiences, and emotions. Projects may include self-portraits, abstract color paintings, sculptures, mixed-media artwork, and other creative explorations.
- Learn to observe, analyze, and discuss works of art—including their own—while developing constructive critique skills and an appreciation for diverse artistic perspectives.
Students of all experience levels are welcome. Emphasis will be placed on artistic growth, creative problem-solving, experimentation, craftsmanship, and developing confidence as an artist.
