Explore CSM’s accelerated professional training for veterinary assistants, which can be completed in under a year. The Veterinary Assistant program immerses students in the field, preparing them for opportunities in veterinary clinics, animal shelters, sanctuaries, and related settings.
While veterinary assistants handle tasks such as feeding, sanitizing, equipment sterilization, and basic medication administration, veterinary technicians have advanced training in operating medical equipment, administering vaccinations, assisting with animal restraint during procedures, performing wound care, and guiding clients on pet wellness. Veterinarians perform more complex diagnostic and treatment procedures. Veterinary assistants also play key roles in preparing serums, collecting samples, and conducting essential laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood analysis.
This continuing education certificate opens for new students once a year. Training is a year-long program that begins with registration in mid-July, followed by classes starting in late August or early September. Students register for three classes together in the fall and three classes together in the spring. All six classes must be completed to earn the certificate.
