This non-process course is intended for water distribution operators and is a part of the EARN Maryland grant.
To be successful in the water distribution field, operators need experience and training in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining water distribution systems, while emphasizing safe practices and procedures. This 24-hour course includes topics such as the role and duties of water distribution system operators, procedures for operating and maintaining clear wells and storage tanks, components and characteristics of distribution system facilities, operating and maintaining distribution systems, maintaining water quality in the system, disinfecting new and repaired facilities as well as water delivered to consumers, and techniques for recognizing hazards and developing safe procedures and programs. Operators learn to analyze and solve problems when they occur and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with operating a distribution system.
