Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant provides basic patient care under direction of nursing staff, performing patient duties such as feeding, dressing, grooming, moving, and changing linens.

For certification eligibility, students must complete the designated courses.
> HTH-6270 Nursing Assistant Fundamentals.
> HTH-6290 Nursing Assistant Practice
Successful completion meets the criteria to apply for CNA certification with the Maryland Board of Nursing. For GNA Certification, students must pass the NNAAP Maryland Nurse Aide Exam, as sanctioned by the Board.

Notice: COVID-19 Vaccination Required for Clinical Placement
CSM's clinical partners have mandated COVID-19 vaccination for clinical placements. All Nursing and Health program students must be fully vaccinated to secure a clinical assignment. Those opting not to get vaccinated will be required to withdraw from the program.

  1. Students must be at least 18 years of age at time of registration.
  2. Prior to registration, students are required to complete the Work Keys Assessment and achieve a minimum score of 4-4-4.
  3. For clinical safety, students must complete a background check and health screening through a top compliance and screening firm. Instructions will be given on the first day of classes.
  4. The first day of class is a MANDATORY orientation. This program has a 100% attendance requirement.
  5. Students should budget an extra $200-$300 for uniforms and Maryland Board of Nursing requirements.
  6. Regulations require students to register for HTH-6270 and the HTH-6290 together.
