How can I earn my high school diploma?

There are three ways Maryland residents can earn their high school diploma:

  • Graduate from high school.
  • Take and pass all four GED® tests.
  • Successfully complete the NEDP.

What does GED and NEDP stand for?

General Educational Development and National External Diploma Program®.

When and where are the GED / NEDP program classes available?

GED and NEDP classes are available at our Prince Frederick, Leonardtown, and La Plata Campuses. We offer morning, afternoon, and evening options both face-to-face as well as virtual to meet our students' needs. Once you have successfully attended orientation and have completed your assessment, you will be placed in the correct level class during days and times that work best for you.

Are the GED and NEDP programs free?

The GED program is free to Maryland residents 18 years of age or older. The NEDP program, another option in obtaining your high school diploma, has a charge of $100 for the program.

How do I get started with the program?

The first step is to log in or create your user profile and then register for the orientation class. From there, you will schedule your assessment and then be placed into the correct level class to begin the program.

How do I create or login to my user profile?

Students who have taken a noncredit class since January 2023, please log in to your existing profile. Please use the forgot my username or forgot my password features to reset your access if you do not remember your login. Please do not create a second profile.

If this is your first time registering on this site, click Login/Create Account and build your account. Creating a profile provides you with your own personal, password-protected account which will allow you to register online and track your class registrations. Please see this flyer for detailed information on how to create your profile. If you have already created a profile, please do NOT create another.

When building your profile, items marked with a red asterisk are required. Your username can be your email address or a username of your choosing. Items, such as demographic information, without a red asterisk are optional and is used by the college strictly for planning and statistical purposes. Save your login and password for future reference.

Once you create your student profile (and on subsequent visits after you sign in), you will see menu options that allow you to check your profile information, check your current registrations, and view your transactions and transcript.

How do I register for a GED orientation?

Browse through the orientation class offerings, when you find the class, you are interested in, click the “Add to Cart” button and then click “Check Out”. ONLY REGISTER FOR ONE ORIENTATION CLASS. Read and agree to the class refund policy and click “Check Out” again. Complete your registration on our secure site. You can print your transaction receipt and class confirmation for your records. In addition, you will receive a class confirmation and transaction receipt via email.

Now that I am registered for my GED orientation, what are my next steps?

Your next step is to complete your intake form and come to the orientation at the date and time you signed up for. Please refer to your confirmation email for a link to the intake form and meeting information for your orientation. The link to the intake form will also be included on your confirmation email.

How long does it take to earn a GED?

The amount of time varies by student. It can vary based on the last grade you completed, how long you have been out of school, and how much time you prepare for the test.

How long does it take to complete the National External Diploma Program (NEDP)?

There is no time limit to complete the NEDP the program. Individuals work through the program at their own pace.

If I fail one part of the GED test, do I have to take the entire test over?

No. You only retake the part(s) you did not pass.

How do I sign up to take the GED and what is the cost?

You enroll online at https://ged.com. Fee information is found at https://labor.maryland.gov/adultliteracy/ged.shtml.

What is the GED ReadyTM practice test?

GED Ready (practice test) is half the length of the actual GED tests and includes questions similar in content, difficulty, and format to the actual tests. This is an excellent predictor of how you may perform on the official tests. They help verify that a student is ready for the actual GED examination.

Do colleges accept the GED?

Yes. When you get the passing scores on the General Education Development (GED) test or complete the National External Diploma Program (NEDP), you will receive a state of Maryland high school diploma. Some four-year institutions might require a certain score higher than the minimum passing score.
